A book can not only create a love of learning, but also give direction,
meaning, inspiration, and hope to its reader. Since education is an element in righting imbalances in the world,
this project aims to restore the balance in South Africa by shipping new or used children‘s books to the Khayelitsha
township, located just outside of Cape Town. In addition, this project serves as a resource for people to learn more about
the current situation of education in South Africa. Through the collection and shipment of children’s books, Books for
South Africa attempts to simultaneously increase awareness in the United States of global disparity and provide the means
to reduce it in South Africa.
