TUESDAY, JUNE 21st, 6:30 PM, KEZAR STADIUM- It’s youth vs. experience. Speed vs. endurance. Fellow teammates and fierce competitors Michael Arulgnanendran and David Kyle will battle it out in the Men’s 3,000 Meter Event. Arulgnanendran, known for his speed in the mile and 800, will square off against Kyle’s stamina in the 5,000 and 10,000 in this hotly anticipated race of the millennium.

Arulgnanendran, who describes himself as “150 lbs. of tall, dark-chocolaty handsomeness” credits his 400M P.R. of 54 seconds due to his meals of rice, chicken and green veggies every day. Kyle can barely clear 60 seconds in the 400M.

However, Kyle’s college P.R. of 15:49 in the 5K and estimated current 5K time of 16:30 bests Arulgnanendran’s recent 5K performance of 17:02. Kyle remains optimistic about the race. “My blazing speed will have Mike’s liver a’ quiverin’, aches a’shakin, and bladder a’ splatterin’ all over the track.” said Kyle. “Boo-yeah!” he later added.

This race will benefit Books for South Africa, a non-profit started by Kyle to improve education in South Africa. The organization is holding a book drive the last two weekends in June to ship as many books as possible to poverty-stricken locations in South Africa. Donors may sponsor either Arulgnanendran or Kyle by giving any amount. Donors that choose the winner of the race will have their names put in a drawing for a $25 dollar gift-certificate for the Sports Basement.

The loser of the 3,000 meter event will run the warm-down lap in a pink slip.
